Stewart’s Brewing – Big Blue – Spiced Blueberry Stout
Big Blue was created in collaboration with our friends at Kinnegar Brewing from Donegal. The beer is a full-bodied stout with lots of oats to help create a smooth luxurious mouthfeel. Blueberry juice and cardamom seeds have been added for a rich fruity flavour with a warming spice kick which compliments the rich chocolate notes from the malt.
MALTS: Pale, Dark Crystal, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Flaked Oats, Wheat, Black Malt
HOPS: Magnum, Challenger
Stewart Brewing quickly established itself as one of Scotland’s most successful and reputable breweries. Over the years, we have continued to innovate and develop, whilst upholding the traditional ethos of Edinburgh’s rich brewing history. A payroll, which consisted of just Jo and Steve Stewart, now supports over 30 employees who work across a range of departments, from retail to production.
We began with a line up of three cask ales. The next natural step was to produce a range of bottled beers and to extend our range of cask and keg brews to accommodate the more experimental drinker. That said, 2010 seemed to inundate us with restriction after restriction; our custom made 10-barrel brew house was, quite literally, full to the brim. We brewed around the clock at maximum capacity but couldn’t keep up with demand. This could only mean one thing; a brand new 50 hectolitre Bavarian brew kit being housed in a new custom-built brewery.
Beers and production aside, Stewart Brewing now has a fantastic, custom-built premises which is very much catered to the public. We have been focusing our efforts on getting as many feet through the doors as possible to see exactly what we do. There is no shortage of incredible facilities on-site at Stewart Brewing, including our experimental brew-it-yourself Craft Beer Kitchen (U.K’s first!); our 18 tap Growler Fill Station; or chilling out with a beer flight poured straight from the tank.
