Santa Carolina Specialities Carignan
Dark and concentrated violet color with a ruby fringe. The wine features mineral aromas reminiscent of lead pencil, earthy aromas and red and black fruit. In the mouth, the lively and nervous flavors clean the palate with notes of sour cherry and raspberry. The finely grained tannins provide a superb structure that lingers on persistently in the finish. Decant before serving.
The grapes for our Specialties Carignan are sourced from two old vineyards located in Cauquenes, Maule valley. In this traditional dry- farmed inland territory, the 80+ year old vines are bush trained and only get their water from the winter rain. The result is savory and complex wines with exceptional expression of origin.
In Cauquenes, the 2014-2015 growing season was rather dry and warm, with high summer temperatures that accelerated production processes and pushed harvest dates. The wines are nicely concentrated, with a predominance of black fruit over red, and ripe tannins.
