Highland Park The Dark 17 Year Old
Dried fruits, cinnamon, toasted almonds, cedar wood, fruitcake, light peat smoke.
THE DARK is a rich 17 year old expression of Highland Park. Matured in european oak sherry seasoned casks to deliver a distinctively deep flavour. It’s packed with dried fruits, nuts and spices, overlaid with hints of smoky peat.
Winter Solstice: In December on Orkney is a celebration of the shortest day. At Maeshowe, a neolithic burial chamber on Orkney at this particular time of year, the setting sun shines directly down the dark passage, illuminating the back wall in a dramatic way for a few minutes.
In THE DARK, we celebrate autumn and winter on orkney- a time to escape from the wild weather outside and gather together with friends and family, sharing long nights of conversation.
A time to enjoy the rewards of our summer labours, to catch up with loved ones and to share hospitality, stories and dreams,
A time for reflection, for taking stock, for celebrating life.
The serpent embossed on the front of the bottle takes its inspiration from the ancient Norse sagas. The dark is written in runic writing on the emboss and on the oak cradle to celebrate our Viking ancestry. The ancient runic writing celebrates our Viking ancestry. On the back of the glass bottle, we have embossed ‘Made with Pride in Orkney’.
The oak frame has two circles etched on the top and bottom representing both high sun of the summer solstice and the low sun of the winter solstice. They represent the intense balance of our contrasting islands’ seasons and their influence on our whisky.
